One of the greatest Beatles lyrics of all time in my opinion is: “what would you think if I sang out of tune?” I’m unsure if the word git is actually in the English dictionary? I thought I knew but I’m still not certain. I do not think you are. I hope I’m not saying the wrong thing. I find the puzzle with journalism is the term allegedly and I’m not inclined to say I know everything about journalism. I have noticed that some dictionaries use different definitions for particular terms. The best way to listen to The Beatles is in Mono – the way it was recorded. The stereo vinyl is too separated; it’s not enjoyable.

The White Album appealed to me as a college student on top of Mount Oread about the time of the moon landing. An improved version might sell. Back in the USSR things really happened here later. That’s The Beatles Abbey road Cars. Perhaps a new edition could improve historical perspective. Many times I have met old Rolling Stones fans who cling to the idea from about 1965 that you were either a Beatles fan or a Stones fan and the Stones were “cool” because they didn’t wear suits and your mother was threatened by them.
All that is fair enough. And it is possibly even fair enough to say that the Stones were “the greatest rock and roll band in the world” or whatever. I have always enjoyed the Stones. But there are two things about The Beatles which explains why more people always ranked them above their contemporaries. Number one is that they had two brilliant songwriters competing with each other whereas Mick and Keith were two halves of a songwriting team. The other thing about the Beatles is that all of them could sing and Paul and John were much more than “not bad singers”.
