Some employees at Friendly City Food Co-op are working to ensure all employees are paid a living wage. I’m a member-owner, and I support their efforts. If you are a member-owner, or a customer, you can sign this online petition to show your support. As such a small charity this is something we’ve wanted for so long but haven’t had the funds for knowing we can spend money on implementing procedures which have helped to reduce stillbirth rates in other NHS trusts. (We think so carefully about how every single penny is spent).

Their support has been amazing, from the initial discussions to the final print. They’ve worked so hard to have these available in time for our morning at the Co-Op tomorrow and the charity ball tomorrow evening. We’ll be handing these out at all charity events to help raise even further awareness, helping to reduce stillbirth rates across the South West. We should not support a race to the bottom for cashiers and other retail workers. We can’t support two tier wages as a softer way to pay the workforce less. People working retail jobs should all have what Co-op workers have. Co-op members should support paying our workers a fair living wage. We should make an effort to shop at businesses that pay workers a fair wage.

Today we had the pleasure of celebrating Peters 70th birthday. Peter has volunteered and been a familiar face to our valued customers at the co-op for over 12 years. Even on his birthday he was busy working away this morning before stopping to enjoy a celebration lunch with his fellow volunteers.
