Nape prints, like this distressed American flag on the back of the Back the Blue shirts, are becoming popular in shirt printing. Add one to the back of your next printed shirts.
On Flag Day, we pause to consider the significance of everything that it represents. Particularly, I am reminded of my friend and fellow Hanoi Hilton POW, Mike Christian. Despite the constant threat of merciless beatings, severe starvation, and extreme isolation, Mike managed to forge an American flag on the inside of his prison-issued blue pajama shirt by using a bamboo needle and scraps of fabric. Each afternoon, he would covertly turn his shirt inside out so that his fellow captives could recite the Pledge of Allegiance as a group. This small but forbidden gesture became a way of life in our camp and a reminder of all that we were fighting to protect back home.
Upon learning of our patriotic ritual, our captors ruthlessly beat Mike to the point of incapacitation. Yet hours after his broken and bloodied body was returned to his cell, Mike found a bamboo needle and started the painstaking task of making another American flag. You see, what the American flag represented for my fellow POWs could not be silenced.
In addition to reflecting on what our Flag represents, let us also honor the servicemen and women who fought – and continue to fight – to ensure our Freedom.
Hope you have a nice day with I back the blue american flag shirt
