Horror movie? Enjoy or terrified?
Growing up I didn’t have anxiety. None. I had no fear of anything. Except scary movies. I couldn’t watch them. They absolutely terrified me. Then in my early twenties I developed panic disorder. I started being anxious all the time. And i became slightly less afraid of horror movies. Then, the older I got, and the worse my anxiety got, the more I began to really enjoy horror. That’s Horror movie villains weapons shirt. Now I love it and find myself turning on American Horror Story or It or Scream if I’ve had a particularly anxious day. Watching something light and fluffy just makes me feel worse. I need death and destruction and terror.
Improving my mental health.
I have often thought it strange that I find horror comforting, but it turns out it’s quite common for people with anxiety. I have said for a while that I think i enjoy scary stuff because it gets me out of my own head. Apparently I’m also giving myself a form of exposure therapy. So maybe all those viewings of Murder House are actually improving my mental health.
