[8/10] The Rescuers Down Under. This one is on the list because of the flying sequence at the beginning of the film with Cody and Marahute. I love flying sequences in film, and in my mind this remains the best cinema’s ever done. The Hiccup and Toothless flying sequence in How to Train Your Dragon is great, don’t get me wrong, but this is still the best. (Live action cinema is still woefully behind in this regard. The stuff Glen Keane does in this sequence is incredible, especially in terms of conveying speed, scale, weight, and height. And Bruce Broughton’s score brings such life to the sequence. (No surprise though—he was capable of bringing life to the flying sequence at the end of The Boy Who Could Fly, even with all the stiffness in the live action footage.)
