This has been by far the hardest and most rewarding year for me, physically, mentally and emotionally. With only just over 6 days until the start of the 2 days Individual event I must say I’m a little excited and nervous at the same time. When I fell during a training run in October and sitting in the waiting room at the 24hr Doctors, I honestly thought that my journey was coming to an end, X-rays didn’t show any broken ribs but that’s normal from what I’ve heard (hard to see on X-ray) and many visits to the Chiropractor did show the signs that the ribs were in fact broken, almost 9 weeks of doing nothing but walking was a little hard to handle. In a way it gave me time to reflect on why I took this challenge on in the first place.

Once Mid December rolled on and the training started to progress with a few runs under the belt and the Kayak started to pick up became a new challenge as the weather kept getting in the way of Gorge trips and it wasn’t until mid January that I was able to finally do a trip through. With Heifer Running team We’ll get there when we get there shirt. I have only been down the Waimak Gorge twice now, so much time missed on the river, I do hope that doesn’t hinder me to much. The training has reduced my weight by 9Kgs over the the 12 months as well, so that’s a plus but the real bonus is that I just feel healthier than 12 months ago.

A round of thanks Julie Mitchell you have been an absolute angle looking after me, while I’ve been selfishly out training for hours at a time, and the really early morning wake ups. I know it hasn’t been easy and I love you for it. Thanks to all the training buddies for the early morning paddles Kim de Leijer you rock girl. and Anna Wood for organising the Woodstock and Downs Rd Paddles over the Winter months, they were a huge help in getting me prepared. Goats Pass running team, can’t wait to see that again. not. Lastly I have a great support team Julie Mitchell Chris Mitchell & Steven Mitchell thanks for all the help you are about to give, and if I seem a little ungrateful on the day. Please forgive me in advance.
