Might play cards with my fellow nurses. I dare you Senator Walsh to follow a nurse just for 8 hrs and see if they really do have time to play cards! This statement is stupid and very ignorant… Nurses can’t even find time to pee. Thankfully I was able to play cards a considerable amount of time at work today. I think it really helped me forget that I was missing another holiday with my loved ones while I was supposed to be taking care of other people’s loved ones. To my friends and family, Please reach out to Republican Senator Maureen Walsh to help set her straight on the multiple ignorant comments she chose to make regarding nurses and what we really do.

She was in the process of trying to make amendments to a bill for something that she obviously knows nothing about and needs to be reminded to not speak out of turn. I became a nurse because of the incredible nurses that took care of me 12 years ago when I was fighting for my life. I can assure you that not once did myself or my family see them playing cards. Throughout nursing school, I never once came across a nurse who didn’t hold their bladders for uncomfortable amounts of time, spend time away from their own family to care for the injured, sick, and dying, dedicate their days to responding to the needs of patients, families, and coworkers, and many often went without eating or breaks….

and never once did I witness any of them playing cards. As a nurse now, I have dedicated my time and efforts to learning incredible amounts of information to be able to help others in their time of need. Senator Walsh spoke about the needs of the patient coming first, above breaks, and I can assure her that I have often gone entire 12 hour shifts without any food or a bathroom break because I put the needs of my patient first without anyone mandating anything.
