When most people think of a therapy pet they think of dogs but as KSC alum Clark proves, cats are every bit as good as our canine friends when it comes to providing comfort. How many times have your cats “been there” for you after a bad day; instinctively knowing you needed a soft paw or whisker kisses? It’s not your imagination. In fact, one writer recently asserted, “Cats are the unsung heroes of mental health.” And, The New York Times reported that demand for therapy cats in clinics and workplaces—and even college campuses at exam time—sometimes outstrips supply. And that brings us to Clark. He and his brother Lewis were found after a young man heard pitiful meows coming from a dumpster.

They were only about a month old and he looked after them until they came to KSC. The brothers were so bonded that we promised not to split them up. Both were pretty sick with URI’s after they first arrived but once recovered, found the best forever home with awesome KSC supporter Elizabeth and her husband. With his sweet, mellow purrsonality Elizabeth wondered if Clark would make a good therapy cat. That’s Fluff You You Fluffin’ Fluff shirt Funny Cat Kitten. So, they both applied for certification through Fairfax Pets on Wheels (FPOW), which connects pets with people living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. They passed with flying colors and have been visiting a local nursing home for the past 3 years.
